Eva Mendes' Depp
The actress talks about her long time crush on Johnny Depp:
"Oh my God, first of all, there's that beauty factor. I'm sorry but Johnny is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen in my life. And knowing that when I was growing up as a little girl, I actually had his pictures up on the wall, I was just like 'Johnnyyyyy,' you know," she says breathlessly. "It was just crazy. I bought all these Tiger Beat, Teen Beat, Big Rocker fan magazines and cut all his pictures. He was the guy who's my total complete crush, and then suddenly, I am making a movie with him! So it was really interesting that he was the only person that I really worked with that dated back so far," she says and then giggles. "I have to admit, I am totally in love with him!"
You're not alone, Eva.

Johnny Depp Talks Chocolate Factory
While he's signed for a sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, one other project on Johnny Depp's mind is Tim Burton's adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
It's not a done deal, but Depp sees "Wonka" as the ultimate without-a-net challenge. "You'll never escape that memory that's seared into your consciousness of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka," he admits. "It was really amazing to watch as a kid growing up, and I've watched it with my kids. So it's just, Okay, where do I go from there? Gene Wilder did something very beautiful and it's time to take it somewhere else."
Depp doubts that Burton will make him belt out musical numbers like Wilder did in the original, but he's not exactly opposed to the idea, either.

Depp, Del Toro will get a taste of Thompson's 'Rum'

Secret Window, Secret Garden
Lilja's Library is keeping a weblog on Secret Window, Secret Garden, a movie starring Johnny Depp that just started shooting in Bromont, Quebec. The movie is based on a Stephen King novella about a "writer (Depp) going through a painful divorce who is stalked by a psychotic stranger claiming that the writer stole his story."
Be sure to check out the rest of the site if you're a fan of King's work.

Once upon a time, there were three unknowns
"I'm still in shock that my name is attached to a film that actually did well at the box office," muses Depp, who's shooting the thriller Secret Window in Montreal. "It's a new thing for me. Little kids come up to me now, and say, 'Captain Jack Sparrow!' Now, they're gonna go back and rent Fear and Loathing. I'll have little kids going, 'What is he huffing?'"

Extra: 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico'
Johnny Depp plays "a complete psycho" alongside Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in the new movie, "Once Upon a Time in Mexico."
The article also includes a brief video clip of Johnny being interviewed for Extra. In it, he talks about how he hopes to play Wonka (cross your fingers) and Sharon Osbourne trying to convince his agent that he should play Ozzy. (Now that would be something to see.)

Rodriguez's Desperado Hours Drag, but Johnny Be Good
he working title of Once Upon a Time in Mexico was Desperado II, and the working title of Desperado was El Mariachi II (why not For a Few Million More?), which gives some indication of the diminishing re-returns on offer in Robert Rodriguez's latest. Having already looted the Peckinpah and spaghetti-western archives, the director now quotes his own quotations, in service of not a sequel but a vociferous reiteration. Here again is the brooding man with no name and vengeance on the brain (Antonio Banderas), strolling through border-town pyrotechnics with an armory in his guitar case, bewitched by Salma Hayek (granted second billing for a near wordless recurring cameo), stretched into a tall tale by a barroom raconteur (Cheech Marin, standing in for an AWOL Steve Buscemi). Various explosions and bullet exchanges punctuate a convolution engaging the CIA, a drug baron (Willem Dafoe in Chuck Heston's Touch of Evil makeup), and the overthrow of the Mexican government.
Notwithstanding multitasker Rodriguez, who not only scripted and directed but "shot, chopped and scored," the identity of Mexico's prime-mover auteur will not surprise those who this summer found themselves enjoying a Bruckbuster pirate farce. Johnny Depp, who must be ad-libbing, is the man in the "CIA" T-shirt, a charming, loathsome tourist kicking up third-world dust with glib glee until the hounds of hell catch his scent—his Gloucester act with a local kid summons at once the fragile specter of Edward Scissorhands and an abject mythos finally worthy of Leone.

Avast Me Hearties: Orlando, Keira & Jerry on 'Pirates'
What did you both learn from working with the likes of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush?
Bloom: Johnny Depp was a bit of a guideline for me, even as a young actor. His character didn't really read like that on the page - that kind of drunkard, Keith Richards number that he pulled from the black corners of his mind. He's so courageous as an actor. It's the same for Geoffrey Rush - as a young actor, I felt really privileged to see how they develop a character. It could quite easily not have worked, but it always works with Johnny. I admired that the most.

Johnny Depp dismisses 'USA is a dumb puppy' report
Johnny Depp says he intended no "anti-American sentiment" in comparing the nation to a dumb puppy and blames a news report for misrepresenting his opinions.
The actor has apologised in a statement to those "who were offended, affected or hurt by this insanely twisted deformation of my words and intent."
Stern, the German magazine that interviewed the actor, says its stands by its story.
Depp was quoted as saying that "America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth - that can bite and hurt you, aggressive."
In a statement Thursday, the 40-year-old actor complained that "the inaccurate and out of context misquote" was "virulently spreading in the news."
"Taken in context, what I was saying was that, compared to Europe, America is a very young country and we are still growing as a nation. It is a shame that the metaphor I used was taken so radically out of context and slung about irresponsibly by the news media," Depp said.
"There was no anti-American sentiment. In fact, it was just the opposite," he said. "I am an American. I love my country and have great hopes for it. It is for this reason that I speak candidly and sometimes critically about it. I have benefited greatly from the freedom that exists in my country and for this I am eternally grateful."
Stern magazine news editor Hans-Peter Junker said Depp's quotes were "not taken out of context."
"Stern regrets that Johnny Depp is being criticized for his outspoken remarks in his homeland," Junker said. "Stern stands by its account."
Depp spends much of his time in the south of France with his companion, Vanessa Paradis, and their two children. According to the Stern article, Depp said he couldn't see himself paying more than short visits to his Los Angeles residence in the present political climate.

Johnny Depp sets sail
“I went after Johnny Depp to play Captain Jack Sparrow,” Bruckheimer says with a knowing grin. “Johnny is an artist who’s known to take on eccentric projects. He’s a brilliant actor. He’s not out to create a fan base for himself, or to simply select work based on salary; it’s clear he needs to find a role that gives back to him artistically. I think he also wanted to do something specifically for his kids.”
It was pretty obvious that Jack Sparrow was based on Keith Richards, but who knew Johnny Depp was also inspired by Pepe Le Pew?

Depp holds out hopes of Don Quixote role
"Every time I speak to Terry he's still very, very enthusiastic about getting Quixote back on the block. If he wants to do that and if he's able to do that, I'd be right there," said Depp.
Since I'm a huge Gilliam/Depp fan, I was extremely disappointed that this movie wasn't completed. Here's hoping they'll get another chance.
